It might be the poorest area in the United States, but the Mississippi Delta lies on the richest soil found in the country today. The only thing richer than the soil is its culture, with a history that sets it apart from other areas of the world. For those who already love the delta as much as I do, enjoy! And for those who haven’t experienced this cultural wonderland, I hope this photographic journal will inspire you to come and explore it for yourself.

Beautiful pictures. They make me homesick. I grew up in Leland CLASS ’71 Leland Academy. I haven’t been back in two years.
I am orginially from Greenville. I still have family living there and love going “home” when I can.
I worked at Bank of Benoit along time ago. I love looking at your pictures of the different areas around there. I had a 5th grade teacher named Mrs. Dreher. By chance are you related to her? If so tell her I said hello and I know live in Louisiana.
Thanks,
Amanda
That guy who claimed to be the son of James ‘Son’ Thomas told you the truth. He is Pat Thomas, son of James Thomas. I painted the mural he was standing in front of and, along with Pat’s father, the mural depicts ‘Ug McGee’ who was an inspiration to young guitar players such as Harry ‘Bub’ Branton and Jimmy Phillips in Leland.
Love your photos…and don’t feel bad, I’m a sucker for Pat’s hard luck stroies, too.
keep up the good work,
